What manual trans?
Just bought a 1994 Ram Sport 2500 2 wheel drive with a 5.9 magumn engine... 243,000 kilometers
This is my first Dodge truck so I am definately a newby.
My question is which manual transmission is in there? its a 5 speed and the previous owner said its a heavy duty one for towing?
I got my first problem in that I purchased my truck on the cheap because it was'nt rolling. Runs awesome, poweerful sounding and smooth, however when I put it into any gear it just stands still and I hear a the occasional sound like fluid rolling around inside a toque convertor with not enough fluid when I tromp on it a bit and and immediately take my foot off the accelarator. The clutch hydraulics seem to be there ( my leg definately feels it ) as I can get in and out of gear and NOt if I dont step on the clutch. So it seems to me the pressure plate and slve cylinder are doing their thing...I don't hear any kind of scuffing sound like you would hear from the plate whipping around between the pressure plate and face of fly wheel..just absolute silence except for my engine, which just rev's away...is this what they mean by "slush Box" ..is it the trans? Any hrlp much appreciated.

Ok, you are just all over the place.
The fluid noise you hear probably has nothing to do with the transmission, its probably the heater core.
"Slush box" refers to an automatic transmission.
So you bought the truck not moving? Hydraulics work. If you think the pressure plate and clutch are in good shape then you are going to have an internal problem. Have you been under the truck? Does it have a drive shaft in it? Is the rear differential in good working order?
If the transmission case is cast iron (magnetic) then its an NV4500. If the case is aluminum then it is the NV3500.

I cannot move the trans in or out of gear without pressing in the clutch pedal.
I have not been under it yet, as I'm also deep in snow at this time. I guess I will have to get under the rearend with a jack and check it out.I purchased the truck on the basis that it had to be towed out that very day, yes...not moving. Owner said the Clutch...was not releasing , but that does'nt seem to be the case here

I bought the truck for $800 canadian....so its definately worth it to get it straightened out. I am handy with a wrench as well once I know where to look.I'm really impressed with this truck, it sounds great, like its got gobs of power and looking so forward to getting power to those rear wheels.
Montec...from what a can see out there in the dark right now, the shaft is present and not disconected in any way at either end. Its a two piece shaft and joins near the middle inside what looks like a large round support..bearing,..bracket?
I will have to get out tommorow in the daylight and jack it up.

Well...got home from work this evening and went outside to jack the truck up test stuff out here and there.Put it up on jack stands and put the trans in neutral without pressing in the clutch, engine off.
I then turned each wheel by hand on each side...don, know if its posi or not...and everything turns nicely right on through up to the trans.Very little free play there, nothing hanging up.
It seems that the rear is okay, along with the drive shafts.
I then put the trans in first gear and can hardly budge anything ,but with good effort I can turn everthing once more.I then did this by succesively by hand through each gear up to fifth and lastly reverse and each gear it gets much easier to turn everything...so it appears there is resistance. I then backed down through each gear and it gets harder to turn everything, first gear being the hardest...???
Am I just blowing smoke here and its the clutch plate all along ?
or is it maybe my hydraulics are not releasing all the way?
Still stumped but at least I'm abit further ahead here.
