Sorry, when I first answered this question I didn't remember to answer the second question... He used Duplicolor which is Automotive paint, and did it very ell I might add, 9 coats, total, with the clear on top, it should last a VERY long time.. Powdercoat is ok, but if you've ever seen powder coated wheels, it's kind of strange looking...and powdercoating is much more expensive. And PITA... it's purely a personal preferance as far as which is better, niether one is really going to go to crap anytime soon, so it is just whichever you like more...

powdercoating yourself is cheap and easy.

Trying to convince the wife to bake your rims in the kitchen oven: hard.

yeah, I roasted coffee beans in the oven one time, I'm not allowed to put anything in the oven without express written consent ever again.. And I do all the cooking... it's rough..

Like I said, Powder coating is a PITA, and expensive.. Because you have to rent your buddies oven, and then pay for his medical bills when his wife finds out what ya'll did.. And concussions due to cast iron skillets aren't cheap... plus you have to buy her a new oven... Don't even get me started on what will happen when YOUR wife finds out what you did...

Ha, the wheel's take 7 days to cure. I also just added a 10th coat of clear to them so they have that little bit of extra protection. I'm going to allow for an additional 2 days for that clear to dry up.

We're at day 6 so far.

Got any of those Halogen Shop Lights?? Those will help it cure.... It will also make it nice and hard... Now that it's on day 6, it's a great time to put that light on, really get it nice and tough... That finish wont be coming off for anything..

Can't wait to see it on the truck...

Just slap them on the truck and drive around high speed and let the wind get to them. They'll dry quicker.

Don't like the way powder coating looks? that just proves you sprayed too many items yourself with the window shut! lol

There a place close to me that powder coats....4 rims for $175...not too bad if you ask me but like you said it is whatever you like to do. They will powder coat ANYTHING.
