Good luck, I think you can take them. In my truck, if I don't cram it off the line, but just get it going, then cram it, it seems to do better. Weird. I wish I could race mine some, but I am too scared of losing my tranny.

My ex father in law had an '88 diesel F250, and it was slooooooooow. Naturally aspirated manual transmission. It was still fun to drive-- not sure why-- but you should be able to pull away with no trouble.

Dump all the weight you can before you race:

Step rails, tool box, passenger seat, tailgate, garbage outta the back, lose the slurpie, take a poop, etc.

The 360 has about 30hp on you assuming he's not done anything to the truck, so it'll come down to you knowing how to race better than he does. The 318 has a shorter stroke and should rev up quicker than the 360 so you should take him on the launch, but he'll catch you toward the end of the 1/4 mile. Practice your brake stands a couple of times and kick the OD off before you race to save the tranny.

You know I posted all up and down the "are mods worth it" thread, but all I can say to this is good luck. Hope you win.

Lean backwards to help put more weight on the wheels for better traction off the line.
Oh, and fold your mirrors in and take your tailgate off, then do it with only 1/4 tank.
Also, go on eBay and get the hairdryer turbo kit.
