If I can remember i will check the interchangeability between years on monday when I get to work. Most of the Dodge (and other makes) from about 96 up are one year only due to the electronics. We have a good trans guy that is always out buyin our core trannys, I'll try and talk to him on monday too. If I had totake a guess I'd say you'll be SOL all the way around, but I'll try and find out for sure monday.

yes an 00 and an 01 will interchange, but you will need to change out the overdrive units. Thats pretty much the only difference. Take the overdrive units off carefully and put them on carefully. If you get the O/D planet and the O/D roller race out of alignment you will have to disassemble the entire O/D unit to realign them.

Also, if the builder used a one piece gasket for the case center support be very careful not to rip it on disassembly or you will need to tear down the entire unit to replace the gasket.

I would also check the O/D brake clearance. It requires a special tool to get the correct clearance. Dont let the torrington bearing sitting there fall out.

The "tailshaft" housing on the 2wd houses the O/D unit. Its all one piece. The 4wd version has the same thing except a much shorter output shaft.

Im not talking about the transfer case at all, that is completely different. Unbolt that from your transmission and put it aside.

There should be 8 11mm bolts that hold the O/D unit onto the case, for both units.

Can you see in the pictures what im talking about?
