Default 3" spring spacers..... question

first of all i have a 95 ram 1500 with a 5.9, 5" skyjacker lift and 35" mudd dawgs.
question... is it a bad thing to put the 3" spring spacers on and what do you use to raise the rear up when you do put the spacers in?

if your lift kit doesnt already use a spacer there shouldnt be any problem adding one.
If the truck sits with a rake (front lower than the rear) than you may not need to lift the rear.
If the truck is level and the existing block in the rear isnt too big already, i would build or buy a block with the length added, ie. if you have a 3" block i would get one that is 6". i would advise to not stack blocks, and dont go larger than 6" (but this is arguable).
You could also re-arc the springs, your local spring & axle shop should be able to do this. Also make sure your steering components and shocks have enough room to move up another 3".

Ive seen lots of people put 3" coil spacers on a 5" skyjacker kit, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you upgrade other parts in the front.

The control arms will not long enough to center the axle in the wheel well. A long arm upgrade would be a good addition and make it ride and flex much better (many companies sell them). You should also upgrade the track bar and pitman arm as well to accommodate for the added lift. And modifying the drive shaft may be needed to keep it from binding (either grind around the CV joint or install an indexing ring).

As for the rear, well that depends on what kind of rear lift you already have. New blocks (taller, not stacked), entirely new springs, or even a shackle flip are all options... but it kinda depends on what you already have for lift. Typically a suspension kit will not raise the rear as much as the front (to level the vehicle), so if you add 3" in the front you will most likely want 3" in the rear as well.

Doesn't their installation manual say not to use spring spacers in addition to the kit? It will void your warranty.

If you want 8" of lift.... you could get the Rock Krawler kit, and I think SkyJacker makes a 7" long arm lift kit too...

I have a 5in Skyjacker lift and I added 3 in coil spring spacers to the front. I work at a shop so I have access to a lift to raise the whole truck. Only thing is you may need coil spring compressors to get them into place, I was not able to on mine with all the weight off the front end I still had to compress the springs to get them in.

I have the pitman arm drop (came with kit) and my truck runs fine Ive had it lifted for 6 months and coil spring spacers 2 months and the the only things ive noticed is 1) my truck sits level and 2) I dont have to worry about my 36" TSL Rubbing when im turning

You don't NEED a coil spring spacer. Just remove the sway bar. It will droop so much the spring AND spacer will probably fall right out.

Wow you got a 5 inch lift and 3 inch coil spacer? didn't look like u had it lifted that much....

what would be my result if I add a 2.5spacer in front and extra leaf in back?

Kindschi, do you really have an 8" total lift? I'm not gonna call you a liar or anything, but if you had 8" of lift you would be clearing 38" tsl's with more room than that. Honestly, that looks like a coil spacer on stock height springs... maybe 3" springs. Nice looking truck anyhow!

It would be pretty level. But again, it will be cutting it close to maxing out everything in the front. Why do you think the skyjacker 7" kit comes with long arms (lower arm anyway), lower drop bracket for track bar, indexing ring for the transfer case... and so forth.

Run it and see how you like it. I have seen several people do it. You may need to get longer shocks though.

Edit: Oh ****, I just noticed you are not the original poster. Disregard that upper post, HA.

A 2.5" coil spacer and an add-a-leaf on your truck would work perfect (you do have stock suspension, correct?). Might not even need new shocks in the rear, but the front will most likely if they are stock.

Yes in the front I have 8inch. My sig pic is before I added the 3 inch coil spring spacers, I guess its alittle misleading.. I liked the pic to much to update. And I dont think I have any pics with the coil spring spacers at all since my gallery wont let me upload anymore since its full.. So I just went out and took some more... Oh, Thanks for the compliment! Love your sig pic!

PS: I got the lift off another truck and the paint so the paint on the lift is not the best. Its rusted, I plan on painting it, one of those outta sight outta mind kinda things. Since its hard to see the lift I never think about it but im gonna have to paint it soon after seeing this pic. Ohh and the zip tie has been cut, ran out there and cut it a min ago.
