tranny questions
ever scicne i got my truck when i put it in drive it takes a second then engages..other than that ive never had any problems with the transmission...is my tranny on its way out the door or is this a normal dodge thing? o the truck has 137xxx miles on it now..also is there any sure fire signes that the trans is about to to take a dump? thanks
There are a few preventitive things that people SHOULD do to prevent problems but most people don't. I'm guilty too. When is the last time the fluid and filter were changed? Have the bands ever been adjusted? Is it leaking at all? Theses are relatively inexpensive and/or free things to start with before assuming a rebuild is in order.
umm well ive had the truck for about a 2 months and i havent touched the trans..but i looked over all the fluids when i first got it and the trans fluid looked like ti was still in good shape..so i dont have a deffenit answer on the last time the filter and fluid was changed if it ever was. also ive never heard of the bands beeing adjusted? thats a soemthing ide like to kno more about. im new to dodges, ive always messed with old chevys. but i heard the trannys are weak spots on these dodge trucks and i just wanna find out what i have to do and should do to make it last. bacause i love the truck lol
If you search the forum you will find plenty of threads talking about how to adjust the bands and what you need to do it. It really isn't difficult to do, you just need to be careful doing it. Dodge does have a stigma for having weak transmissions. I think it also doesn't help that most people even if they take care of their engine, highly neglect their trans until it starts to act up.
There is a guy on here MonteC that you will see answers just about any post about transmissions. He is a trans tech and knows his stuff. He usually recommends that people replace their shift solenoids. These aren't difficult to get to. You just need to drop the trans pan and they are right there and come out with a couple of screws.
I hope this helps and I am sure that more people will jump in and give more advice.
