Default Fuel Pump Assembly -- Is there a fuel filter?

I Think my truck has an issue getting the amount of fuel it needs to propel itself under loads. (Nothing extreme, just hills) You'll have to "pump" the gas pedal to get the engine to start gaining distance again. It won't ever really die, but idle becomes very rough when it takes on this attitude. It comes and goes in small durations. I replaced o2 sensors, it did not help out this issue.

It is almost like a bog, but I have a 5spd and know what a bog is and its not bogging down. The tone of the engine definitely sounds like its cutting out and is very "muffled" sounding.

Could it be a fuel pump wearing out? (I know they usually just quit, but in a rare case I've heard they "wear" out)

Does my dodge have a fuel filter that is replaceable or is it a whole fuel pump assembly?

What does the problem sound like to you??

they dont really have fuel filter per say... there is a screen that is attached to the pump... your problem almost sounds like a clogged cat converter imo....

Na the Filter is in side the fuel pump, and it is self cleaning. So you would have to replace the entire fuel pump. But try to diagnose it down further before you do that, of course.

The fuel filter is in the pressure regulator on top of the pump, outside the tank. You can get the regulator/filter from the dealer, but it's usually not the problem.

Right on Zman, the problem maybe somewhere else. Have u run a fuel pressure test??? When was the last time you did a tune up?? Checked compression? Checked out the coil?? There is a list of what it could be.

There is no filter there on mine... I do know that there is a screen on the bottom of the pump itself in the tank.

Either way get your catalytic converter checked

It is built into the regulator. And the screen on the bottom of the pump is just for large debris.

Look again, It's there.

Fuel pressure should be steady at approx 49 PSI
