hello everyone,
i have a 97 ram 1500 with a 5.9L engine and i have been haveing a problem with it, it started with and extended crank time before the truck would fire up, then it up and die on me altogether so i start bangin on the tank and it fires up so i think fuel pump,put a brand new mopar pump in and it runs now and has done so for 2 days but now my extended crank time is back, i also noticed that if i push the accelerator while sitting at idle to try and get to say 1500 rpms ill be able to hold it there and then shortly after the rpms start dropping even though im not moving the pedal at all.

any ideas????

 

also i have put a new o2 sensor in and have replace plugs wires and cap and rotor recently, im starting to lean towards a cam or crank sensor but wanted to hear what you guys thought.

it never did this before it use to always fire right off like literally after about half a sec of cranking and now sometimes it will but other times it takes a few seconds.

 

Possibly the IAC valve reacting slowly. When you put your foot on the gas, then the idle falls, that could be the IAC closing slowly and lowering the amount of air that passes thru the TB bypass which would lower the Idle without moving your foot.

Typically If the crank sensor goes bad its done, no crank at all. Not 100% sure on the symptoms of a bad cam sensor.

 

IAC was another guess i had too, i guess ill try a new one and see what happens, do you think that the iac could cause the long crank time too?
