lack of power
i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 RW drive, reg cab.
it has about 85,000 miles on it, and has a power problem. first couple of gears are just fine, but as i start getting into the higher gears, power starts lacking. at times power is lacking so much i cant even use fifth gear, i will shift when i need to, then the truck starts to slow down. we thought it was just exhaust at first, got a new muffler and catalytic converter. problem was still there. from time to time when im doing around 60 mph i will hear like a hiss noise come and go. right now we are thinking its a vacuum leak somewhere, robbing the power. can anyone give me an idea on a commun vacuum leak? other then the lack of power, the truck runs really well.

best thing to do is check the vaccum diagram (under hood) and check the hoses for cracks. you can also get some carb cleaner and spay the hoses with engine running and see if the idle pics up for a min. if it does then you found your leak.
have you done a full tune up lately? that might be contributing as well.
