P0601 code in my PT Cruiser
Any one familiar with the P0601 code. It popped up in my wifes car and will not clear. Everything I read says it needs a new ecm. The car runs ok but I am concerned that it may suddenly take a dive. Any ideas on cost of repair or if drivability will be an issue till I can get it repaired. The code reads: internal control module memory check sum error. Thanks in advance.
Not much help, but you might checkout this site and search for P0601: http://www.ptdoityourself.net/tl/tl_index1.html#8e.
They claim its not an expensive repair and may be covered by warranty.

I am not an expert, but from what I understand, the P0601 code (checksum error) can be a hardware or firmware error. If you just flashed in a custom tune and come back with a checksum, there is a very good chance that it is only programming glitch in the custom tune and a corrected tune will fix the problem. However, if it just started out of the blue, it is most likely a bad PCM (hardware issue).
