It would work best mounted smack dab in the center of the cab roof, but that is quite the commitment if you go with permanent mounting. Oh yeah and you could upgrade to a 102" whip plus 4" spring to give you full on ~1/4 wave excellence but those long whips are a lifestyle adjustment for sure....especially on the roof.
I use the 102" whip in the desert. I use the 4 foot fiberglass for my daily driving.

102" inch and my 4 footer.

I bent a piece of steel to sandwich in behind the rear pass side bed hook.

I'm a desert guy, 2x4 is all I need. It will be great once I get a locker and some BFG's.

Stimulus package come on, don't let me down!

Mine did not work but I love the look at 100 them bending over. looks cool. Soon i hope to get a cb hook it and and run dual 4ft's agin. I want my whips back.
Heck I've destroyed one 4ft already! I thought nah that little hitting won't hurt it....EEEE wrong! wire was showing so I had to replace it and I added a quick release to be able to bend it down to 90 degree.

Both your antennae would work better if you could mount them up higher so that the bottom isn't down inside your bed like that. The bed rails are blocking part of the antenna.

I like Hometheatermans suggestion but have never tried one of the Wilsons myself. I hear they are pretty good.

I have an amped radio and when the skip is rolling I can speak to other states. My setup is just fine thanks.

You're welcome, but I hope no one from the FCC reads your post and decides to try finding you. There are some ridiculously large fines for doing that.

Maybe if you mounted your antenna more optimally you wouldn't need the amp. I've found proper antenna tuning, ie getting VSWR near to 1, to be a much more effective technique to get out than running extra power. This is true especially considering that it is usually much less expensive too.

Obviously adding power will get you out further no matter what your antenna setup is than not running power but IMO it's a bit of a cro magnon approach if you don't optimise antenna first before deciding to amplify.

It doesn't have to be the FCC. I know of several HAM operators that make a game out of tracking down folks that do this and turn them in to the FCC.

i agree with several posts saying you should have mounted the antenna up higher
i have mine mounted just about 3 or 4 inches below the bed rail on the driver side, up front
mine is 4 foot tall, works great for farm use [all the tractors, the combine, and semi trucks wired up with radios
the antenna is hooked to this CB radio

ill post some pics tomorrow after i take them lol

FCC, come bust me please.

My SWR is 1.2 on Channel 19. 1.3 on Channel 1 and 1.1 on channel 40. Seriously, GTFO.

What does your SWR have to do with how much power you are putting out?

That being said I don't have a amp on my cb and don't really want one but geez why would you waste time to go track someone down for it? Why not spend your time tracking down a real criminal instead if you are going to spend your time doing something like that? Unless they have enough power to bleed through to someones tv or something like that they aren't doing harm to anyone.
