I can see the vague outline of a checker pattern but overall, doesn't look all that much worse than mine. Why would someone put a checker ... um ... anything on headlights? What's the purpose?

I'm not saying that I can justify it, I'm only arguing that it's not "weathering" or sun fade.
But regardless, I plan on trying to polish them before I spring for new ones.
