Default Bumping Noise under floorboards.

I am feeling a bumping noise coming from under the floor when I drive. Feels like something lightly hitting underneath. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be before I climb underneath in the snow? It's a '95 1500 Ram 4x4. Thanks

As I stated, I want to keep the time under the truck IN THE SNOW to a minimum. Oh, did I mention that it as been -30 degrees here. I'm not a mechanic in any way shape or form. I can change tires, bearings, plugs , wires but that is about the extent of my abilities so far. I'm just looking for a hint to start with.

Default the knocking is probably coming from.....

The knocking is probably coming from the part under your truck that is either loose or wore out While I sympathize with your dilemma of laying on the frozen tundra, your probably gonna not only have to look at it, but I bet you may even have to touch a COLD part or two, even shake them to find out where it is. Unless the board has a resident psychic.

Very common cause of what you're feeling is loose front shock mounts (lower). They need to be torqued to 100 lb/ft. They will loosen up over time.

Maybe you ran over a homeless person and he's pissed off at you.

Hes correct, mine were doing the same thing until I got back into it and torqued them down again, it took me a while to realize what it was, you dont even have to crawl under the floorboards to check, reach into your wheelwell, or if your feeling really froggy pop open your hood, play around with the shock mount and see if it rattles around a little.

+1 on lower bolt of front shocks. they feel like they're right under your feet. put a big pull bar or cheater pipe or air wrench on there and tighten the **** out of them. 100# or more.

Those are some good suggestions. Thanks for some of the info (and for keeping the jokes to a minimum)

I also had that feeling when a couple of the plastic screws fell out of the plastic wheel well cover. It would move around a bit and feel like a thump on the floor board. Try pushing the truck side to side to see if you can duplicate the sound/feel.
