Default Engine+Tranns+TC=how?

Alright got my tranny and engine and am ready to hook them together, is there a certain position this driveplate has to be in? Can I just bolt it all up and slap it together? I didn't makr any of it as the engine got acid washed and the tranny is brand new....here are two pics any thoughts or suggestions on how to go about doing this? Also does anyone have a picture of where the crank censor goes?

Does any sort of gasket go between the tranny and engine mating surfaces?

You see that cut out in the top left of the bell housing in your 2nd pic? that's where the crank sensor goes. And as far as lining things up. I would turn the crank so the bolt holes in the flex plate where straight up and down. And I would also carefully remove the TC from the trans. and check to see the fit to the flex plate. Then reinstall it to the trans. and line it up accordingly.

And btw, do not install the crank sensor until after the trans is mounted to the motor and before you install the exhaust manifold.

So there isn't a certain position it has to be in other than the driveplate screws have to line up with the tc holes?

No, although there is a certain process to take. Start of by lining up the locator pins on the engine to the trans. Then bolt the trans to the engine with a couple of your bolts. THEN, turn the TC if need be to line up the bolt holes to the flywheel. DO NOT torque the TC bolts down to line things up, you will either bend the flywheel or tweak something.

When I put my trans in, I located it, bolted it in with a few bolts. Lined up the TC with the flywheel and then went around the flywheel and put each bolt in and started them in the holes. Then I went around again and snugged each one up, then I went around a last time and torqued them to the proper spec.

You want to take extra care not to bend the flywheel or to pull excessivly on the TC

There is no gasket and the lip should face outward. The TC should "seat" inside of the flywheel and then attach with the 4 bolts.

Just a reminder, do not force the trans up to the engine. When they are lined up it should slide together pretty easy with a light push. If the angle between the two is not right then they will not slide together.
