I'm pretty sure it's PurplDodge, although he never posted it....

Crank Sensor Mod for the Short or Sore Back

1. Disconnect the positive battery terminal
2. Working on up top, on the Driver's side, near the distrubitor. Buried under the distributor or next to it, there should be a black connector with 3 wires coming out or it. This is the connector to the crank sensor. Unplug this connector
3. Jack up your truck on the passenger side. Put a jack stand under the truck for safety.
4. Working from the top, remove the 2, 7/16'' bolts that holds the silver heat sheild on.
5. Get under the truck and remove the bottom bolt (7/16'' Deep well) to the 1st heat sheild.
6. Now, there is a 2nd heat sheild that makes it (IMO) eaiser to get off. This heat sheild is overhead the Catalytic Converter and comes off just like the first heat sheild.
7. Sitting under the passenger side exhaust manifold, reach behind the manifold and feel for the sensor, to locate it. (WOW, after reading that a second time, I can see how that can be taken WAAYY out of context!!)
Here is a pic to show what it looks like on the motor.

8. Using a 1/2'' open end wrench (I could fit one in there) or a 1/4'' hex, loosen the bolts.
9. Pull out the Crank sensor.
10. Place the sensor in a vice.
11. Using a RotoZip, Dremel, or whatever, slot the sensor so it looks like the one in the picture below. (I am holding a non-modded sensor up to a picture I got from Dodge T*lk)

11. Shave off the rough edges of the holes with a file.
12. Clean off the metal shavings that may have acclumilated on the bottom of the sensor with Electric parts cleaner.
13. Before installing the sensor back in, remove the rubber grommet from the transmission bellhousing. This will allow you to move the sensor.
14. Rest is just reverse of removal.

Yeah, I dont think it will affect your performance that much. I did'nt feel that big of a difference except it was smoother during the higher RPMs and had a little bit more power in the higher RPMs. Now that the PCM has got used to the mod, the mod's effects went away.

By advancing the timing, you lose low end and gain high end(I forget who told me that, but if I'm wrong, correct me). I think that I may buy a new sensor, not mod it, and see if I gain any low end back.

If you want to do the mod, be my guest. If you have the Death Flash, though, your results may be different than mine because I don't have the Death Flash. HAHAHA!!!!

You're 13, you could fit in the engine bay with the fan shroud still in.
