Default Need Some Power

Ok, so I just got a '99 dodge ram 1500 4x4 standard cab today. It all together runs pretty well, no engine problems and very clean and completely stock.
The one thing I would like to do is put a little more power. I want to put some performance parts on, but at the same time not destroy the engine or the computer of the vehicle.

If anyone could give me some info on what to use I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.

So if I chose to put a dual exhaust system on there, would it be wise to remove the catalytic oxidizer?

Ok, so I have yet another question, is it possible to put headers on it? Theres not a whole lot of room between the wheel well and the heads.

- Get a diesel.
- Buy something other then a 3 ton vehicle if you want performance.
- get a crotch rocket

No but really.... probably the easiest and most effective way to get more grunt out of it would be changing your gearing.

-i tried gettin a diesel, and trust me i would of preferred it wayyyyy more, but they are too expensive. Plus, diesel's are built for towing, not performance.
-3 ton vehicle? its a half ton dude.
-I am in a 4x4 only area and rice rockets are for them homie types.

What do you mean by changing the gearing?

- Yes diesels are for towing, but due to the fact that they are turbocharged, a chip will give you significant amounts of extra power from the additional boost it allows.
- 3 ton weight, not the capacity of the truck.
- I said crotch rocket, not rice rocket....... but any bike would do..... even a cruiser.

By gearing, meant your gear ratio. For example, my truck has 3.55 gearing.... if you change that to something higher, like 3.90 or 4.10, you'll make it a lot easier for you truck to accelerale (but you will loose top speed).

It's all about tradeoffs.
