Default stock trans cooler?

just curious if anyone else has this on their '95 1500 5.9L? i was looking in my engine compartment and stuff because i plan on putting in a trans cooler. well, theres the air conditioning coil thing in front of the radiator like its suppose to be. i could care less about air conditioning, never use it anyway, but i was looking to see if i could just rip it out and put a trans cooler in its place, well theres already trans cooler lines going to this thing. it has the pressure line going to the radiator, return coming out of the radiator, going to this a/c coil thing, coming out and going back to trans. just curious if this is something stock or if its like an a-c/trans cooler combo deal. any help would be appreciated, ill post pics asap.

It's a factory trans cooler. Not the greatest cooler there is but it works just fine. IMO Best thing you can do is delete the check valve, (do a search here for that). If you don't tow much, or at all, the factory cooler is fine, along with regular maintenance to the tranny.

ok, i'll look for that. yea i dont really see that big of a performance difference between buying a new one if im not towing are doing a whole lot of that. i'll have to look again, but i plan on ripping the entire a/c system out so i might have to replace it anyway. lol

the trucks with the transmission cooler from the factory have the option for 'towing package'. more good news is that it might have have a 3.70 gear. you can check your glove box or under hood stickers. there's also (or was) a sticker on the rear axle, drivers side). the stock coolers are fine.

why would you tear out your a/c. i sure do enjoy mine on those 95* days...

+1 on regular replacement of fluid and filter. every 20 or 30k.

my bad, i was thinking about something else. anyway, for a truck, a 3.92 is a much better gear than the 3.55
