And btw, the most important part of the installation is the torque specs. If you don't have a wrench capable of atleast the required 175 ft lbs for the axle nut, rent one or let someone else do it.

Sorry for my misinformation. I typed it exactly as the lady on the other end of the phone said it from the Dodge dealer.

Obviously, my dealer sucks too

I don't have access to a 2wd so I have to relay on the 2001 FSM ... that nut doesn't look castellated to me.

i didn't have any way to check that much torque. so i put the big 3/4" impact wrench on it and let it bang away until it wasn't moving any more. figured that was enough. my 4wd had the cotter pin. castellated - thats a big word.

my damn torque wrench wouldn't work either, so i put the breaker bar on the 12 points and guessed at them too.

Well I just realized that the OP's truck is a 2wd. So we are ALL wrong! LOL All he needs is a pair of channel locks and a manual to properly adjust the bearings.

You have a 2wd, the bearing adjustment is very important.

To answer the question ... yes you CAN. However, personally, I won't play games with brakes OR suspension. What's the nut say? I believe they're like $14 at the dealer. I'd D/L the FSM from this forum (zman showed you where) and take the money I saved NOT buying a housewive's manual and sink it into proper parts ... or tools.
