Default Tempurture gauge

my temp gauge aint workin i was told that it could be a sensor but i wunt ur guys opinion

have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 Extended Cab

Check out the connector first. But the sensor is cheap, so replacing it to see if that's the prob is the easiest and least expensive route in the trouble shooting procedure.

There is either one or 2 coolant temp sensors in your intake manifold depending on the year. They are locate in the intake manifold behind the alternator and AC units near the large radiator coolant tube that comes straight out of the top. They are small and made of brass and a 7/16" deep well socket should fit right over them to pull them out. The threads in them are 1/8" NPT and can be had at the parts store for about $20. You may have to remove the alternator and A/C unit to get to them. Don't over tighten them on install or you'll have a really big mess.

+1, I should have stated, not the easiest to get to , but easier than trouble shooting electrical and /or removing the gauge itself.
