Ram 98 5.2, Start fine when cold, die and back fire when hot
Hi everyone.
I have a problem with my 98' dodge ram, 5.2 automatic, 100 000mile.
When I start, he run fine during 10-15 minuts, I can rev it to 5000rpm without problem. After some time (semi hot-hot) truck miss, don't rev and do a lot a back fire into the exhaust, smoke black like a damn good cummin's.
I do some search here and I read about choke sticking, but I don't think my 98 have a choke.
I try-check:
-All new tune-up
-computer
-crank sensor
-coolant sensor give me good number
-timing mark - timing chain
If you have any idea, thanks guy, sorry for english quality, habitually I write french.

MAP sensor maybe, or IAC. Take the TB off, remove all the sensors and clean it , and the sensors. Might as well try that before you start throwing money at it. Have you checked for codes? Is the CEL on or flashing when this happens?
BTW, welcome to DF. Reason I ask about the CEL is because it could be the pre cat O2. Could be bad even if no CEL. Any chance you know if it has ever been replaced? And of course the broken record about the plenum gasket and having the cat checked.
