I have a 1996 ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9 currently it has the O2 sensors inline with eachother after the collector and no catalytic converter. However the check engine code says that the right sensor is bad and i was told there should be one sensor on each collector so it only reads the O2 from 4 cylinders. Does anyone know where the O2 sensors should be located on my truck, by the way its federal emissions not california. please help!!!!!

O2 sensors are located in several different places, depending on year, engine size, and emissions types (Federal, California, Moon, etc.) My 98 5.9 has them located before and after the Catalytic Converter. Sometimes they are located at the base (outlet) of one or both of your exhaust manifolds. I've also heard of there being up to 4 sensors in the exhaust stream, although I haven't seen that. I think that might be a mistake though.

There are 4 O2 sensors on the newer california OBD2 cars (one on each manifold, and one before the cat then after the cat) however mine is a 96 so it is the first year of OBD2 and it is federal emissions, I live in cali so its almost impossible for me to find out where mine go?
