yes x100 delete the cat, they suck, just use a pipe instead of gutting it. Its easier and it sounds better

That depends on your definition of "sounds better". As already stated before, and if you ask Neon (maybe he will pop in here to give us his two cents eventually), he will vouch for this: gutting the cat makes your exhaust a bit (or more) louder, but it also drones to no end. A Super 44 drones enough (trust me, I have it). It doesn't bother me at all as it is now (with a high-flow cat), but if it did it any more than it does currently, it probably would, and I'd have to change it.

If you are going just for straight out loud noise (like ricers do), and don't care about a fine if a copy ever catches you, and your state doesn't do e-testing, I guess you could go for it. Its your truck, do what you want. But my vote is against it. (Also see my post in the "True Duals" thread posted a few minutes ago.)

My two cents.

Why do cats suck?

i do not have a cat, i forgot exactly what it is, but our 02 sensors for what ever reason dont pick up the cat delete, or at least mine does not. I just put the 02 sensors roughly about where they go, and i haven't had any problems with them yet (its been probally 1 1/2 years now). But i dont have hearders, i just have 2 1/2 inch true duals with no cats and 2 flowmaster 40s, it sounds good by the way, i think your truck will sound real good with that set up, but it wil be super loud with those headers.

I replaced my cat with a section of pipe last year, ended absolutely hating it. The
performance difference between a hi flow cat and no cat at all isn't even noticed. It does
however make the exhaust loud to the point of annoyance. I had no cat and a 14''
magnaflow on mine which cause me to raise my voice to my passenger when the windows
were open.

On a '96+ vehicle that is OBD2, the downstream 02 sensor should trigger an emissions fail flag in the ECM.

The upstream 02 is feedback to the fueling tables. So in theory, omitting the converter should cause a CEL and code stored but shouldn't effect fueling.
