First off, thanks to everyone for all the help and knowledge....

Sadly, I lost reverse in my 2001 318 4x4 v8

I was wondering can I put in a transmission from and non 4x4 318 v8 and have everythig work properly?

I only ask because someone has one(completley rebuilt) for short money as opposed to a rebuild of mine???

thanks again!

jimmy

Not really....the OD housings are very different, as is the output shaft itself. Might be able to swap those, but it would be a pain in the ****, imo. Better off getting a 4x4 trans.

I figured the tailshaft was the only difference. Since you already have a 4x4 version, should be a simple swap. Not saying "Yes" but worth looking into ... if it's really cheap. Saving $$ on a repair is usually a GOOD thing.
