Default 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 grind

when I try to engage my 4x4, the gears grind as I am driving down the road...when I have tried it, I have never been going more than 25 mph and never accelerating...it will go in, but I'm sure the griding is terrible for it...any thoughts?

thanks

So it's only grinding when you first put it in or it's grinding after it's in 4wd too? If only when first going in to 4wd, alot of people on here, including me will tell you to do it when stopped or barely moving.

I know i shouldnt use it, but its been needed! Anyone from around Hastings mn area willing to help me come change em out? Ive got a garage with a lift!!

Stop and put your tranny in N before you shift into 4.
