Overrated cat's = less restriction?
Howdy,
I'm looking through the Magnaflow 99000 series of catalytic converters, 3 inch in and out if you are curious. What I've noticed are that some models are compatible with higher engine displacements than other models.
Is it safe to assume that higher engine displacement compatible cats are always higher flow than the similar cats with smaller engine displacement compatibility limits?
Are there any downsides to, ie emissions level for example, just blindly choosing the higher rated part with the assumption that more flow will be better?
An example of 2 cats I might consider are the 99439HM (rated for up to 7.8L engines) and the 99039HM (rated for up to 6.2L engines) http://www.car-sound.com/02product/universal/990.asp
