Default Timing cover seal

How hard is it to change the timing cover seal? I wanted to leave the old seal in there while painting. Then I was gonna change it out before I put it back on. Is it easy to do to where i won't screw up the paint or should I wait to paint it

its easy. you just knock it out with a punch or screwdriver. tap the new one in and seat it with a block or wood or something similar that won't damage it.
place your newly painted timing cover on a piece of cardboard and you'll be fine.
