Codes
I working on a friends 94 ram1500 4x short wheelbase this thing cranks and runs good but the check engine light comes on within about a block and stays on until you kill it.
I used the key on off on off on method it gave me the codes 12 32 55.
Can anyone tell me what these are.
I am also going to tune this up are there any tricks to getting the dist. cap and rotor off. (I can barely see the thing)

Code 32: Exhaust gas recirculating (EGR) system failure or solenoid circuit problem
Code 12 is set when the battery has been disconnected and the computer (ECU) has been reset. The power limited light will not light and limp mode does not apply. This code shows up when power to the computer has been interrupted as when the computer has been reset buy disconnecting the battery.
Code 12 is normal and doesn’t necessarily indicate a fault.
Code 55 indicates end of codes. If you are retrieving codes, code 55 will indicated that you have reached the end of the code list. Code 55 will always be reported regardless of if there is another code to report or not. If you don’t receive a code 55 when retrieving codes, the power limited light may be burned out (or you may not have done the code checking procedure correctly).

To get the cap and rotor off, I had to take my air box off and lay across the top of the motor and I used a socket on the end of a driver, not a ratchet, to get the screws out. It took a while and it was uncomfortable as hell.
Thanks guys as I am far from home with not a lot of tools and no books.
So if it resets the code 32 you think I need to replace the egr valve.
Yea that dist cap looks like it is going to be a beooch gotta love the engineers.

It took me about 2 hours start to finish. It was the first time I did it on this truck, and it took me a bit to actually find the damn thing. that and i did the oil pressure transmitter at the same time
You can use a phillips to get it off, but my screws were reamned out and the screwdriver would not grab, I think it is a 10mm screw.

Your telling me, I love working on my Cj5, I can change my cap, rotor, plugs, and wires in about 15min.

When I did my dist. cap, rotor, plugs, and wires I laid across my engine bay to get to the cap and had my dad 1 by 1 hand me the new wires and help me route them. It sure was a lot easier than climbing up and down for every wire.
