HI Everyone. Joined DF a month ago. Love this forum. I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Sport 5.2L 318ci and was looking to replace my injectors. My truck has 137,000+ miles and wanted to know where I can get the best deal for 8 injectors.

why not just clean them?

 

just cleaned my injectors and fuel rail , replaced all of the rubber "O" ring gaskets and the truck runs fine. i have a 98 sport with a 5.9L with 138k miles on it. a trick i learned here on the forum for cleaning the injectors is to get a square 9V battery and hook a wire to each side. connect the wires to the plug in part of the injector( 1 wire to a prong) and you should hear a clicking nosie which is opening the injector. put a little carb/and choke cleaner in the injector while it's in the open position and then remove the wires so it will close. let the injectors sit for a few minutes then reconnect the wires and while the injector is open blow thru it in the opposite direction until nothing but air is coming out of the top. if you are not getting air coming out check the connection if you have the wires on the prong then your injector is bad. do this for each injector. after that then flood the fuel rail with the carb and choke cleaner. replace all of the rubber "O" ring gaskets on the injector ( make sure you lube them well ) then reinstall the injectors onto the fuel rail, install the fuel rail back into the intake making sure you don't get the tips of the injectors dirty, bolt it back down and reconnect the fuel line. turn your key on and off a few times to prime the system then start. it make take a few times but then it'll catch. hopefully this helps.

 

I've heard you can use 24lbs Ford fuel injectors. Is that true? 24lb is the factory injector size right for a 5.9?

 

Thanks for everyone's replies. I did have them cleaned at NAPA once. Didn't know about the 9v battery trick. The reason I am looking to get new injectors was #8 gives me a misfire. I think the #8 injector solonoid is not closing and allowing some fuel to drip into the cylinder and then the engine cranks for a second. When I start the truck in the morning or after work it starts right up with a tap of the key. Before I replace the injector I will try that cleaning with the carb cleaner, possibly a piece of dirt got in there.

 

move the # 8 injector to the # 2 spot and vise-versa. clear the code and start and drive it around, if the CEL goes to the # 2 spot then it's the injector if not and it stays at 8 then I would pull the valave cover and check the valve spring, valve, ect. also since you would ahve the injector out hook the 9V battery to it if it clicks every time you touch the wires to the prongs then it's opening and shuting correctly.

 

Or you have the wonderful cracked head syndrom.

Yes 24 ford injs will work. I believe that ours are a different # then that though

 

Thought our stock units were 18lb.

 

24lbs ford injectors will be way too much!

FMS injectors are rated at 39psi.

Ours operate at 49psi. A 24lbs Ford injector will run almost 30lbs in a Dodge! Stock is 22~23lbs for us.
