Angry Major problem.....

Anyone from around Hastings,MN or surrounding area know anything about getting these damn shields off? Right now i have hose clamps on the same 2 in the pic and they arent getting any tighter, and arent coming off.... I think the heads may have to come off to get these out, or just replace the heads.... I dont know what to do now..... Can i put heat to the base of these shields?

I thought a sparkplug socket fits right on in there. and the shield stays.

They're pressed in ... pull the plugs ... stuff a rag down the hole to keep dirt and plug pieces out (Erik ... ERIK??) and then go to town on them. They're there to guide the plugs into the hole cause they're kinda recessed. Why do you want them out?

I have a set of Stanley plug sockets that fit right in there...but I agree that they are a pain. Your best best would be to spray them with something really good like PB Blaster or that Royal Purple spray and let it soak. Then take some channel locks and squeeze the shield in the middle and give it your best effort. When I can afford to just waste $40, I am going to pull mine off and buy a set of those slip on heat sleeves from Summit Racing. Before you pull the plugs and try to get the shields off, get an air compressor or a couple cans of compressed air and try to spray down in there and blow the dirt and stuff out. It just takes a good break up spray and lots of muscle and patience...good luck.

Put a pair of pliers or channel locks on them and rock them back and forth. Its a pain but they will let go eventually

Just find the right socket for the plugs and dont waste any time messing with the shields.

i removed my heat shields. some came out easy by grabbing ahold with pliers and wiggling. on one i had to clamp on a pair of vice grips and smack the pliers with a hammer.

yours are rusted in worse than any i've ever seen here in the sunny south. spray them with pb-blaster or wd40 and let them soak some if you can, then try the vice grips and hammer.
