Interested in how that turns out. Part of why I chose the Kappy 10" is it ony needs a range of .5-1.0 cubic foot of air space. Figure I can easily build a box for that. Having looked at some various specs on the JL Stealth, seems like they were getting about a 1.0 cubic foot with their box.

I was told (by someone with 30+ years in audio systems) that a 10" need closer to 1.5 cubic feet while a good 8" closer to 1 cubic feet. I was shy under 1 cubic feet so I added poly (whatever it is called) and ported it with 8 inch port...loud enough for me!

BTW sorry I wasn't able to take pics today or sound...will try on Tuesday as I am out of town tomorrow.

This will be your best friend when you start to take the doors off.
Good luck , and take a whole lot of pics.
IMO, You made a very good choice in components, but then again I am very partial when it comes to infinity.

I am going by the numbers from Infinity for the Kappa in a sealed box, which range closer to .53-.98. In a ported box, it would require 1.5 cubic feet, which I'm assuming is what your audio guy was talking about?

I'm not a hard core audio guy, couldn't tell you the fine details between ported and sealed, but from what I have read, believe a sealed box is more the sound I'm looking for. Didn't set out to put in a 10" sub, just happened to be what the Kappa sub comes in, and figured I'd stick with one line of products to keep it simple since it's my first time.

Elected not to wait, thinking this is what I want to try. Ordered the sub, amp and speakers from onlinecarstereo.com for $700 and shipping was free. Had ordered from them in the past and had good luck, although this time I had to call in and get some clarifications because they had some issues with accuracy on their site.

Just a note to those who may think of ordering through the previously mentioned web site. CALL FIRST. While they have the best prices, the website is not the greatest. I found a couple mistakes on the site and ended up getting verification before I ordered, however what's not listed on the website, and what no one cared to mention through my inquiries, is the amp is currently on back order indefinitely. Logged into the site this a.m. to check on if it the order had been shipped yet, since I didn't get the email notification, to see it was shipped without the amp. No one can give me an answer as to when it'll be in.

Great.

I have a Alpine 9830 motorized head unit from several years ago. Then to power the speakers I have a Alpine 4 channel amp that puts out 70 watts RMS x4. I have only had this a little over a year. For the speakers it's powering I have Polk DB 6.5" Components up front and Polk DB 6.5" coaxials in the rear.

For the bass I have 2 12" Infinity subs in a Q Logic box powered by a 500watt RMS Alpine single channel amp. I have everything with the exception of the rear speakers and the speaker wire from the amp to subs wired with Street Wires. The rear speakers and the speaker wire from the amp to the sub's is Monster Cable as I ran out of Street Wires speaker wire and got a spool of Monster cable for the rest of the job.

I have a Street Wires distribution block to run the 2 amps.

I would have gone to local car stero place (not bestbuy style stores), told them whta I want and what I wanna spend, most of the time they can build one for your truck. PLus you can hear what the compnets sound like before you drop a grand on stuff.

I did do that. Ended up choosing Infinity because I liked the sound of it the best. Chose to buy it online and do it myself because I can do this entire system myself for under $800, no way I'd have even gotten the speakers/amp for that at the local places, not counting labor.

I realize my initial post referenced Best Buy, but I ended up bailing on them pretty quick. Nothing for this install, whether product or advice, came from B.B.

I just have a Pioneer Single Disc CD Player that came with my truck. Currently in the process of installing 5 1/4" Components(havent decided on brand yet) in the doors with a custom plate I made and installing 5 1/4" Coaxials in the rear along with 2 10" subs(of which I still need to figure out what brand). I will be installing amps underneath seats(as I have a Std. Cab). Make sure you post pics once you get things in.
