Default ram 1500

I'm looking at a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Quad cab Laramie 5.2L auto pwr group AC tilt cruise short box 260K 4x4 $ 8500.00{Can}
Body it decent, needs tires, but I'm unfamiliar with the motor, what can I expect for milage and was there any major problems with them.
I'm new to the Dodge stuff I've mainly had Chev. What size is a "5.2L" motor, 318 or what?

5.2 is a 318, I'll leave the mileage quotes to those who run them

Seems like a lot of money to me. I have the 318 in my Jeep with 140K and it still seems strong. I regularly see 2nd gen 1500s around here for around $4K with 4x4.

That is quite a few miles on a gas motor. I've seen some on here with more, but not many.

$8500 Canadian = approximately $6690 U.S.

IMO, it would have to be spotless and in perfect condition to be worth anywhere near that. www.edmunds.com (the best estimator, IMO) estimates its value at approximately $3000-$4500 U.S., depending on your exact location, private party or dealership, and color. Thats if it is fully loaded with every option in the book except the 5.9L.

NADA, which I think is biased to dealerships but no where near as bad as KBB, estimates the value to be approximately what they are asking for it, if its in near perfect condition (again) with no problems.

I'd offer them no more than $5000 Canadian if the test drive is good and a mechanic says it has no problems, and negotiate from there.

Although is it km up there? That would put the mileage around 160k 'miles', but yeah, still seems like it's priced high.
