Default Question for tranny guys?

Well, first off, about 10K ago I developed a front pump seal leak, and had to replace my pump and TC. Well, thats all I did, and now it's gettin pretty mushy, but I'm in a really tight money situation. My tranny shop will sell me individual parts and whatnot, so I was wondering if I could just replace the front band, the clutches, and the steels... I know if I'm gonna open it, I should replace everything I can, but I can't afford it, and it needs to be pretty driveable. Every time I've done the fluid and filter since I rebuilt it, it's always really clean, and there's not a whole lot of debris on the magnet. I've kept the bands adjusted and all, but would just replacing clutches and bands firm the trans up?? Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance!

No. Putting in new clutches and bands will not make the shifts firm. Put a Throttle pressure gauge on it and make sure you have adequate Throttle pressure. If ok then you may want to look into a shift kit for the valvebody.

Okay, cool. It's not the worst thing in the world... but I just didn't replace the band or clutches, they looked fine, they weren't really worn or anything, but I just feel like since i have 124K on the truck, and i have only owned it since 81K and i dont know when or if it was ever rebuilt, i ought to put new clutches in there.
