Haha, we're back to doing code again eh? Since I have the parts, I don't think it'll cost me $2000 for someone's labor.

you want a serious mpg increase? as far as our dodges are conerned the only gaurenteed increase in mpg is to change over to the hughes/edelbrock intake...you can shell out $600 for that. they originally said from 2-4 mpg increase. now they said they have customers claiming up to 8 mpg increase.

thanks for the tip, but I already have the K&N. Can't really dish out that much dough to replace the intake I already replaced...

Well I don't like the idea of hurting my tranny... 3.55 is stock, right? I don't have 2grand either. What would you guys suggest? I'm guessing this is on 16" rims, right?

285's with 3.55 gearing isn't going to HURT anything. You won't be blistering the tires on concrete but it's not unbearable. This 4x4 came with 265's and after I wore them down to the nubs I fitted it with 285's ... didn't feel all that different. It's plenty responsive as it sits and has had no tranny problems. I'm going up to 305's next tire change and will be puting diesel springs on it for the level and firm up. I'll consider a gear change IF it's too sluggish.

I didn't say 285s would hurt anything with 3.55s. I just said that anything bigger than that with 3.55s is hard on the tranny.

You replaced the air cleaner assembly, not the intake. A CAI kit is basically an air cleaner/filter assembly, not an intake (kind of a mislabel by the companies). Thats why they put the word "kit" on the end, its a Cold Air Intake Kit. The intake is actually the big "keggar" half barrel lookin thing below the throttle body and where the CAI connects.

3.55 is stock for most Rams. There was the option for the 3.92 that a very few people went with when they bought 'em brand new, and Off-Road editions came with 4.10s.

I think I'm going to call BS on those Edelbrock numbers. Aims4Squirrels bought one something similar to it, and I think if he had had that big of a different in MPGs, he would have reported it. Maybe a couple, yeah, but 8? If its anywhere near that, its probably mostly the fact that they replaced their broken plenum gasket with the new intake, rather than a "better design."

alright then. I'll double check, but I'll bet it's 3.55.
could be something else though cause I bought it used from an old farmer and it was his "toy truck" with 23K miles

Would I need to change anything else if I get 285s?
