Default 46RE Questions

We have a 1996 1500 4 X 4 with a 46RE Transmission. What do I have to do to install a 1997 or a 1998 46RE? I have been told that I have to stay with the 96 but I have also been told that you can install a 97 or 98 with some modification. Does any body have specifics on what need changed?

You can install a 97, 98 or 99 with no problem. 2000, and 2001 require slight modifications.

What kind of modifications? I just had the internals from my 2000 46RE swapped into a 46RE case from a 98 Ram. The cases were identical to me.

Thanks everybody. I could not see why I could not use a newer one. Thanks again.
