Default 1999 dodge ram 5.9 slt

Hi all. my dodge has now tossed the auto trans and it is time for a rebuild (my truck has 228000 on it so i think its about time )

i have rebuilt trans in the past but was wondering how hard is it for this one?
do i need special tools or what parts should be replaced? i have got a quote from a trans dealer and they told me that they will rebuild it completely with converter and 5 year warranty for 950.00 out the door. that a good price or should i rebuild it myself?

Thanks all.

I just rebuilt my trans and while it wasn't too difficult to do, I did run into a few problems and ended up spending about $800 anyways.

The basic costs are:
Rebuild kit: $110
Torque Converter: $140

Shift Kit (TFOD JR): $20

I however ran into multiple problems when I did mine that ended up costing me a lot more. For $950 including a 5 yr warranty I would say go for it and have the shop do it.
