Default Tranny swap question

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 5.9 with a bad tranny (46re). Can I swap my tranny with a 1998 5.9L 46re (57k on the truck)? I've heard I may have to make some mods. Any response would be greatly appreciated.

'98 was the year that Dodge deleted the gear based speedometer/odometer drive. Both the '98 and the '01 use the RWSS for this and neither use the VSS for shift data. '97 back might create problems, although minor ones. Can't think of anything else.

Thanks for that info. I'm buying the entire 1998 truck for a grand, so worse case scenario, I'll have a bunch of parts to sell. Again, thanks.
