Default 2nd gen axle swap

has anyone tried to put a 3rd gen 9 1/4 rear axle assembly in there 2nd gen. was thinking of doing this to gain a locker and rear discs.

I'm pretty sure the later 2nd gens, like 2000, 2001 had the rear disc brake options, but I don't see why the newer models wouldn't work.

If you're gonna go through the bother of swapping out the axel though, I'd swap it for a dana 60 or 70. More locker options.

Just for the record, rear disc brakes were not offered on a second gen half ton.


As far as swapping the 3rd gen 9.25 in to a 2nd gen, I think that would be fairly simple although maybe with a few glitches. The location of the spring pads may have changed slightly (not sure though), so that would be one thing to check. Also check the drive shaft flange as that may have changed as well. And as far as having rear disc's, I am not sure what would have to be done with the stock brake system. New master cylinder? Just bolt up and go?
