Overdrive & Cruise Control Issues
The automatic transmission in my 96' pickup has been bothering me for a while now and although I've done some investigating I cannot seem to solve the problem.
Currently, at a cruising speed of 65-70MPH the RPM's are up at around 3000, which to me sounds high for a truck that redlines at 5000. If I try to go any faster it climbs even higher and the truck is screaming. Even worse, is that as soon as I lift off the throttle the RPM's drop to around a 1000, and as soon as I get back on the gas it ramps right back up before it'll begin to pull.
I tried fooling with the O/D OFF button and all that does is keep the RPM in that range longer when I let off it.
I tried replacing the TPS and nothing changed.
I looked thru my shop manual and they mention an overdrive solenoid, but they don't tell you where it can be found.
Also, which fuse is responsible for the crusie control b/c the light is out on the steering wheel and it won't activate either. I'm not certain if the two problems are related.
Any input would be appreciated.
