Exclamation No oil pressure

Just changed the oil pan gasket and rear seal on my 98 ram 5.9 earlier. Just fired it up and my check gauges light come on and now I have NO OIL PRESSURE at idle. Oil pressure only starts to rise above 3-4k rpms. I had great pressure before I started. I reused my old oil pump and screen. I made sure to prime the pump before I put it back on. Torqued the main caps to 85ft lbs. I let it run for about a minute and there was no noise that I could tell. Maybe the oil sensor is bad but it would be strange for it to go bad all of a sudden. Any ideas? I should have just replaced the pump and screen. When I dropped the pan, there were no metal shavings on the screen or in the pan.

I just double checked. No pressure at all till 2800rpm. Quiet til 2000rpm. Above that, lots of valve chatter. Pressure rises to 35psi at 2800rpms. No more, no less. When you let off the gas, pressure drops like a rock back to 0. I'm not sure where to go from here.

stop running the damn thing with no oil pressure, especially at high rpm's.
drop the pan and the pump and find out what's wrong.
you may not have the oil pump engaged with the shaft that drops down from the distributor.
did you use a gasket on the oil pump. make sure its not missing or screwed up.

No I didn't use a gasket on the pump. There was not one when I took it off. Would that cause a vacuum leak?

This is turning out to be another bad day. Dropped the pan this morning and found the oil pump was cracked completely in two. Unbolted the pump in pieces and found the main bearing cap had a small chunk out of it where the pump bolts to. The shaft was not damaged. Hopefully no other problems were caused. So I need to replace the main cap along with the oil pump but where can I get a main cap?

do you think the cap is still usable ? not cracked ? still holding torque on the bearing ?
if so, i'd be tempted to use it.

if not,
i would put up an add in all the sub-forum where your engine is used 5.2? or 5.9?, including Dakota, Ram, Durango, and ask if someone with a wrecked engine would donate you one for little to nothing.

another option is to go around a few local garages, incl dealership and ask if anyone's got one from a wrecked motor.

i wouldn't know where to actually buy one.
