Cool Timing

Does anyone know how much timing is too much for our trucks? I ask because my truck runs like doo doo without my programmmer. Stock the max timing is 36+-1 at anything over 2200 rpm. Programmer timing goes straight to 40 deg at 1500+ rpm. I spoke with Dennis Reinehart (http://www.reinhartautomotive.com) who is a wiz with the performance thing and he says that the programmer will advance it too much. He says I am lucky it has not blown the motor. The only problem is that I have pushed this thing hard as hell with it and no ping , no nothing. I am guessing the PCM does not allow for timing greater than 40.

Idk man but with my tunes, whenever i got WOT, the begining i ping and then as i climb rpms my ping drops and goes away. Im guessing my problem is Air to fuel ratio. But i talked to hemi about this and he said that he prolly had my timing advanced to far, or at least to far for the gas around here
