Default check valve?

is the check valve in these tranny coolers the whole reason why the trannys in the rams go out so often? if it was replaced would that make the tranny a good one or are there other things that will make it go out? I was wondering because i have always taken care of my trans by putting in new fluid, adjusting the bands if necessary etc. and if i swap this for the new hose, am i surely preventing any future common trans. failure? Also, where can i get this hose that eliminates the check valve? thanks!

well, it can be a problem if it gets clogged....from what i hear is people putting a strain such as big tires with stock gears is one of the most common problems......for the hose, you have to make it yourself....also a shift kit would help

i don't think its the primary problem. according to montec, the stock transmission is full of really cheap parts. but the check valve is an unnecessary 50 cent piece that can block coolant flow, and cause or contribute to overheating. i installed an auxillary cooler and removed mine, hoping to avoid failure in the future. knock on wood its holding up ok so far.

on the other side, i doubt that the check valve would ever clog up on a regularly serviced transmission (annually). my guess is that its more likely to clog up on one that's never serviced and heavily sludged up.

buy transmission hose at your local auto parts for about $3/foot. its a specific product "transmission hose", don't use fuel line or vacuum line or anything else. fuel line might actually be ok, but just get the right thing.
