Default New member saying hi!

Been lurking around here for a while but just joined today.
I recently traded in my leased Avalanche and bought a 2001 Ram with I believe has the sport and tow package. It also has an intake and dually flow masters.

Just wanted to introduce myself and be a part of the forum.

Plans are to get rid of the mud tires it has on now and get all terrains, also paint it satin black as the body is somewhat rough.

How would I know if the truck has had the computer programmed? I am only getting 10 mpg.

Thanks,
Nick

Welcome to DF!
Ok I wouldn't look at the computer as the first culprit for your 10mpg.
Two problems that are common with Dodge Rams that cause low fuel mileage are:
Clogged Cat
Intake plenum leak - Pull off throttle body and look down intake plenum for pooled oil

Sorry, i didn't make myself clear. I was wondering if the computer was programmed because the previous owner did do some mods to it but I didn't ask if it was programmed.

The fuel question was unrelated to the computer but thanks for the tip, I will try to look at it this weekend.

Also, I am pretty sure that Dodge put out a recall on the $h!t cats and the dealer will replace it for free if it is stock and plugged up. The recall came out about 3 months after I pulled mine out!

um you could have the "death flash" which retards the times, for less performance and drop in fuel milage.

depending on milage it may need a decent tune up, new plugs, cap rotor and wires, wouldent hurt to switch to sythetic.

these trucks loves gas, so to have good MPG it is hard, less if you baby it, but with these truck you going to wanna have fun

welcome to the forum, you could check in glove box to see what gears you have 3.55 or the 4.10 .........

what motor you have, you can make a signiture for your truck so we all know

Welcome to DF nicobaires! As you already probably know, the DIY links at the top of the 2nd Gen forum have some amazing information on our trucks. If you haven't already, be sure to check them out =]

Greetings!

As others have said...

Check your plenum. Fix it if needed (unless previous owner did, more than likely you will have to. 99% of our Dodge trucks have this issue it seems.)

Replacing the mud tires will help a tad, but not tremendously. If you don't have the Off Road edition (it'd say Off Road on the back of the bed's sides and/or on the tailgate), you most likely have 3.55 gears like most of us. Great for gas mileage on the highway with tiny factory tires, but not get up and go, especially with decent to large tires.

Thanks for the welcoming.

It is the sport model, definielty has the tow package because of the hitch on the back and tow hooks on the front? It is the 5.9l and I assume off road cause it sits high and I also see the orange shocks (read that somewhere) but i haven't seen anywhere that says off road. Someone took off the sport stickers because i can still see where they were on the hood.
I'm assuming the cats where taking care of because of the aftermarket exhaust. I really need to get under it to look at it though.

Anyone in the North Jersey area that can help me check this think out?

I also hear some minor pinging when going up a hill, so this is related to the plenum gasket and also the "death flash"correct? How do I get rid of the death flash once I replace the gasket?
