Default 97 1500 has grinding at low speeds

I just put a 3" lift on my 97 1500 4x4 with a manual tranny. i have had the lift on about 2 weeks. I took a trip about 300 miles and on the way back, I started getting a loud grinding noise coming from the transmission/transfer case area. It is intermitent, but more frequent at lower speeds, initial torque and in 4wd. Any suggestions?

I would look at the driveshaft first,(the dbl. Cardan joint) then go to hub bearings and ujoints on the axles.

I looked at both axles. They look fine. I took it to a shop today to have it evaluated. They said it is definitely coming from the tranfer case, but since they want $1200 to take it apart I figure I'll turn to you guys for help. Anybody have a parts breadown, diagram or how-to for my transfer case? thx ahead of time.
