The Monroe gas-magnums are OK. I'm going to wait until I have a chance to purchase some Bilsteins to do a comparison, but the gas-magnums were cheap, so what the heck.

Almost any shock is better than stockers. Sensa Trac shocks made by Monroe are not for us, IMO, they are soft shocks designed for cars.

Stick with a name brand you know. Monroe Reflex shocks are a little sportier shock (supposedly) than Gas Magnums. Gas Magnums are advertised as the "work" shocks for light trucks and SUVs.

I have monroe Matics in mine right now, I love them. I have only had one issue, and that is with my exhaust. It seems like the monroe shocks are just a little larger in diameter than the stock. I am running the American Thunder Exhaust kit from Flowmaster, and the pipe is hitting the back left shock. I dont hear it going down the road, but when I am in the field, or a bumpy road, they smack together making a loud clank sound.
Another plus, The monroe shocks have a lifetime warranty when you buy them from oriely's.

i bought a set of gabriel's at autozone for about $30 each. i think they're fine. anything new is better than 5-10 years old.

my only complaint is the stupid things are painted white. so i sprayed then black.

I bought Gabriel shocks, the Monroe standard, Sensatrac, and Reflex. And I tried them all on my truck and even combinations front and rear. Needless to say I did alot of wrenching. The best combo was Sensatrac on the front and standard on the back.

Anything other than standard on the back the ride will be harsh/rough.
Anything other than standard on the back the ride will be harsh/rough.

Gas magnum is stiffer than standard, sensatrac is stiffer than gas magnum, and reflex is stiffer than sensatrac.
Take a gas magnum and a reflex, one in each hand, set them on the floor and push on them at the same time and you will feel the stiffness.

better ride control = stiffer
better performance = stiffer
more expensive = stiffer

This has been my experience. Your results may vary. And it's all relatively subjective.

I have used the Edelbrocks, Rancho's and also the bilsteins... I like the bilsteins the most. they seem to be more durable than the others and the 5100 series that I have use a valve that stiffens when in the corner, making the truck flater in a turn. they perform pretty good off road. Also the Edelbrocks did well on & off road but my preference is the bilsteins.

I would stay away from the grap-matics from monroe. I put load adjuster on the back and sensa-tracs on the front. I love the setup. The ride was kind of rough for the first 1000 miles but after that it was really smooth. If you don't do alot of towing or you don't want the back end of your truck to be any higher then it already is I would run sensa-tracs all the way around or reflex.
