Default Should I buy this truck?

Hey guys this is my first post. I don't own a ram but really would like one. I'm in college so money is hard to come by so I'm looking to spend about $5000. What are some things I need to look out for? Does the transmission tend to go out around a certain mileage? I know this is annoying but just educate me a little on what I need to know.

Thanks a lot

i found a 97' that is in good shape with new BFG A/T tires but it has 187k miles on it...

Heads
Motor Mounts
Tranny
Plenum gasket
Low gas mileage

Not the best vehicle to be looking at for college

There is a lot more that I am not going to type, just for the simple fact that you can find them all by using the search function.

Looks to me like it already sold, the link is empty. What year, model, tranny type and 4 or 2wd.

I paid 3200 for mine, 96 ram 5.9 with a auto tranny. It had 170K miles on it, I would offer the guy 4k and go from there.

for half the money that youre wantin to spend, you can find ya a 30mpg + car with low miles and will last a good while......or if youre just set on a truck, you can find one with half the miles with that price

I guessed about some of the features your truck came with, I assumed the best case scenario (completely fully loaded):

Trade-In value estimate
Edmunds.com: $4400
NADA: $5100

Private Party value estimate
Edmunds.com: $5500
NADA: $6500

If a dealer was selling it, they'd probably ask for...
Edmunds.com: $7000
NADA: $8500

I don't know where you live, but honestly think 5k is an insane amount to pay for that year truck with nearly 200k. Go on Craigslist, do a search for Ram with a max of 5k and you'll easily find better deals.

But to agree with previous posters, probably not the greatest college vehicle.
