Rear disc brakes.
helms....yes stock my 1500 had dual front pistons and rear drums..now i have pistons in the rear from a 78 chevy 3/4ton and front is stock for a 96 3/4 dodge...I guess i just cant do anything esay..lol
well, for starters. when you use a disk/drum setup, there will be a metering block (of some sort) to allow the front calipers to pressurize before the drums because the calipers require more fluid transfer. when you replace the drums with a disk setup, you will need to either remove or modify the metering block, otherwise you will not have enough fluid transfer to fill the rear calipers, this could explain why, although not necessary, you are able to press the pedal to the floor pan. ther is a fair amount of science to develope a proper braking sytem.
ok so heres my delema...I put a 94 dana 60 with a disc brake conversion rear in..also a 96 dana 60 front....I have an 01 1500 offroad ram...the brakes work but the pedal is extreamly soft and you dont have to but if you wanted to you could push them to the floor. I was told to put in a 3/4ton master cylinder to help the softness and stiffen the pedal and maybe put in a proportioning valve in...but i read that dodge does not have one in 01(proportioning valve) , its run by computer through the ABS......Moral of the story is im lost...should i try the 3/4 ton master with the bigger bore or just live with a extreamly soft pedal... P.S. i also have to play with the speed sensor to bc the speedo is not working so great but thats life in a custom world..
