possible wheel bearing going out
Could be bearings and/or u joints.
Easy test. Jack up axle, place vehicle on stand(s). With tire suspended, grasp at top and bottom and give it wiggle. Any play is too much.
Lastly, curse because your wallet is about to be emptied. Then repeat test on other front tire.

to change a wheel bearing , took me about 15 mins, its nothing even a noviance cant do. You will have to pull the rotor/hub off , but other than that , walk in the park. I think all said and done 4 wheel bearsin and 2 seals ( both iner and outer bearings , and only one seal and thats the outer) cost me about 30 bucks from autozone. Pakced together with valvoline synth Wheel bearing grease , and it worked like a charm. If it comes down to that , I can write a step by step how to do wheel bearings, i even got a few pictures of the steps. that is if it hasnt been done.

Yeah, we need to know if you have 2wd or 4x4. If you have 4x4 then your wheel bearing is a sealed unit integrated with the hub and cannot be opened up to service. You need to buy a new hub/bearing assembly and they are pricey. The passenger sides tend to go quicker than the driver sides since you are hitting sewers and whatnot. Simple procedure though, there is a writeup on pavementsucks.com under the tech section. The hardest part is breaking the spindle nut loose. I had to use a 6 foot iron cheater bar and lots of propane to get mine off.
Not to thread jack, but this sounds like a problem I recently started having.
Every morning this week I've noticed an odd grinding sound/feeling when backing out of the driveway. It continues for a few hundred feet and then gets quieter and almost (but not entirely) goes away once I've driven a short distance. At first I thought it was a little rust on the brakes from rain, but it's getting worse and louder and I can feel it more. I plan to take it to the dealer either today or tomorrow, but I think my warranty just expired (I think it's 3 year, 36,000 miles?)
I have a 2006 quad cab 4x4 with 5.7 with 42,000 miles on it.
*oops, just realized this is the 2nd gen forum, but would still appreciate any info*
