Default What differential do I have?

I have a '96 2500 Ram with a Cummings Diesel engine. The differential is a 4.10, limited slip (From the original window sticker). Without crawling under the truck, can someone tell me what differential I have? The truck manual says that the lubricant type and the fill level are different if I have a Chrysler differential or one of three different Dana differentials.

It's a dana 70.

If it's a 4x4 you have a dana 60 in the front. It'd be a good idea to do them both.

You sure ??? Thought the 3500's got the D70/80 (single/dual) ... the 2500's got a D60.

Doesn't matter ... if it's a CTD 3/4 ton ... it's a Dana/Spicer.

The 2500s with the 5.9 V-8 had a dana 60 in the rear, but the V-10s and the cummins had the dana 70 in the rear.

There was no single 3500 2nd gens. All the 3500s were duallys and they got the dana 80s

Really? Damn I may be misinformed. Sorry about that. Maybe it was just the diesels that had the dana 70 in the rear end. I thought for sure the V-10s did too.

Edit - Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I thought the 2500s with the v-10 or cummins had a dana 70 rearend if they had an automatic transmission, and a dana 80 if they were a manual transmission, and all the 3500s had a dana 80 in them regardless of the engine.

Thanks a lot. That helps. One more question. Do I need a new gasket to change the oil in the differential? Dodge part?

If its a dana it should have a two digit number on the differential. Older 2nd gen 2500's did
get the 9.25 rear but that may be just with the V8 3/4 ton.

Yeah the 94, 95, and possibly 96 Light duty 2500s had 8 lug dana 44s up front, and 8 lug 9.25s in the rear, but the that was only with the 5.9 v-8 option.

As for the gasket, get yourself some RVT sealant. I used the black kind. I believe it had the highest resistance to heat. Not sure if it matters, but mine has never leaked.
