Default cam choice

Hi I have a 95 dodhe ram 318 and I want to put a cam I it. But I dont know what cam to put in I am looking a this cam http://store.summitracing.com/partde...9&autoview=sku but I am also thanking about a RV cam. I will not be doing any real heavy pulling. But I would like to have some good torque and also be able to get some speed out of my truck. If i get a cam can I use stock heads, rockers, and just put in new springs. thanks

why not just do the HS 1.7 rockers. same/better result, a ton easier, less likely to encounter tuning problems.

i agree, at this stage it will be easier to go with the 1.7s. it sounds like your not looking for anything specific in the power department and going with the cam will be more complicated with changing springs and re tuning the ECM. for simplicity of installation, low maintenace, and a comparable price, the rockers get my vote.

If I were in your position I would contact comp cams and talk to them about what you
have and what you are looking to do. They can set you up with an off the shelf or custom
grind to fit your application.

what about it? an "RV cam" is a genaric term given to camshafts that provide high torque at low rpm, designed for an RV or tow rig, they dont drive in the high rpm range, they need the low end torque to get from stoplight to stoplight. most "RV cams" will make most of their power right off of idle.

I honestly don't get it. Why would you want a generic cam? Almost every time someone
comes on here for cam advice the last thing they think of is actually calling the company
that makes the cam to get one that truely fits what they want. It will take the guessing
out of which one to get plus if you really want the RV cam then you could get them to
explain how it effects your vehicle. I'm not trying to be rude but any company that makes
cams is going to know more about it than pretty much any of us.

The price tag on that cam seems a little steep... I have to agree with skyline. Contact Comp Cams and fill out a cam request form. They can recommend a cam based on your specs and what you want out of your truck much better than any of us can.
