I have a 94 1500 5.9L Ram that takes a while to fire when I start it. I have had the problem for about six months and it is getting worse. Once it is running it works fine, there is no bogging or rough idling. I have a friend who has the same problem on his blazer and someone told him to check his fuel pressure regulator first. Is this something I should do or should I just change out the pump?

Also on a side note, when I am driving and let off the gas, I hear a howling noise in the rear end when coasting. Any ideas?

I had the same thing happen with my truck. It ended up being the FPR/check valve. I just had the whole pump assembly replaced.
